I’m involved through my church in helping spread the word on how we can help our “neighbors” in Liberia who are suffering miserably from the devastating effects of the Ebola virus. I have gone on-line to read articles and look at pictures to raise my awareness and I’d suggest it to others. When I was going through the pictures it hit me really hard. Some of them actually made me sick to my stomach and I had to look away. But, then the reality hit me that they can’t just look away, turn off the computer, and go about their normal day like I can. They are suffering! I asked myself, “What if that was my son or daughter?”
We Can Help…
We have come up with a very practical, and yet, very effective way to help the people in Liberia. We are collecting specific preventative medical supplies that will go to those in need. Currently, the people in Liberia do not have access to the supplies necessary to help prevent this disease from spreading. People are being left uncared for because health workers do not have the basic items such as disposable gloves, disinfectant and face masks to prevent the spread of the disease. So how can you make a difference?
There are two things you can do:
One is to go out and personally purchase the items that are listed here.
The second thing you can do is to get the word out. Share it on Facebook, Tweet about it, and take the handout to your place of business, neighbors, community groups, schools, etc…I believe people want to help – they just need to be given the opportunity.
We are teaming up with other churches, businesses, hospitals, organizations and youth sports teams to help fill a 40ft container that will be sent to Liberia. Please take the time to lend a hand in making a difference to our neighbors in Liberia.
All donations need to be delivered to Community Covenant Church, 615 Tremont St, Rehoboth, MA by September 25th. You can deliver them any time Monday to Friday from 9am-4pm in the church lobby (front entrance).
